English
Our English Department is led by Dr. Susanne Maxwell. She provides guidance for the teaching staff to help them develop lessons covering basic grammar, composition, creative writing, and poetry. She also helps teachers develop reading lists and advise the library for new book acquisitions.

Social Studies
Springfield’s Social Studies Department is led by Mr. Henry Howell. He helps teachers develop curriculum that covers history, social studies, geography, and map reading skills. He also organizes the annual fifth grade field trip to Springfield Museum.

Mathematics
Springfield’s Math department chairman is Ms. Catherine Quincy. Ms. Quincy oversees the development of lesson plans from basic math skills through basic algebra offered to some of our students.

Science
Our Science Department is led by Dr. William O’Connor. He helps teachers develop exciting experiments that teach science basics, from physics to chemistry to biology. Dr. O’Connor is well-known throughout the state for his approach to teaching evolutionary biology though his extensive collection of fossils.

Art
Springfield’s Art Department is co-chaired by Mrs. Sandra Mead and Ms. Cindy Field. Together, Mrs. Mead and Ms. Field are responsible for leading classes covering all kinds of graphic art expression, from kindergarten finger-painting to sixth-grade multi-media creations.

Music
The Music Department is led by Mr. Harry Johnson. Mr. Johnson leads all music appreciation classes and is responsible for organizing the school band and overseeing all band practice. In 2007, Springfield Elementary’s school band took First Place in a statewide competition of elementary school bands!

Sports
Our Sports Department is headed by Mr. Joe Francee. Mr. Francee leads all gym classes and is responsible for the School’s annual Field Day competition. He also works directly with several parent-led sports teams for soccer, softball, and touch football.
